Introducing URL Deindexing – Take control of your online presence!
Deindexing occurs when a website or its pages are removed from Google’s index. Once deindexed, the affected pages will no longer appear in Google search results.
We are excited to introduce our new URL deindexing feature, designed to give you greater control over your website's presence in Google search results. This feature allows you to remove specific URLs from Google's index, ensuring that only the most relevant and high-quality content is accessible to users.
Here's why you should Deindex URLs?
As Bloggers, Creators, and Site owners, you may want to de-index your pages to prevent private or low-quality pages from appearing in search results. For example, let's say you already have an indexed blog page on a given topic and you write another one on a similar topic. Now, if the new blog is more relevant and comprehensive, you may want Google to index the new blog and not show the older one anymore.
In summary, here's when you would want to de-index your web pages.
- Control Over Content: Remove outdated, duplicate, or low-quality pages from search results.
- Improved SEO: Enhance your site's overall performance by ensuring that only valuable content is indexed.
- Quick Action: Instantly hide sensitive or unwanted URLs from appearing in search results.
How to Use the Deindexing Feature
1. Log into Indexly: Access your dashboard, select the desired site, and navigate to the instant indexing page.
2. On the Instant Indexing Page: Select the URL you want to deindex from the left. You will now see a new option "Bulk De-index" on top of the indexing table. Refer image below.
3. Submit the Deindexing Request:
- With the URL(s) selected for deindexing, now Click on the Bulk De-index button.
- Click on the Bulk Deindexing button to submit the selected pages for Deindexing.
- That's it, you are done! 😄
Further Steps
While Indexly's deindexing tool submits your URLs for deindexing, we recommend you follow these steps for permanent removal:
- Add a Noindex Tag: Include a
<meta name="robots" content="noindex">tag in the HTML of the page you want to deindex. - Use Robots.txt: Ensure your robots.txt file does not disallow access to the page you want to deindex.
- Return 404 or 410 Status Codes: For deleted pages, ensure your server returns a 404 (Not Found) or 410 (Gone) status code.
